Atkins Diet Analysis:

  1. The recommended daily nutrition consists of 1.5 cups of fruit, 2.5 cups of vegetables, 6 ounces of grains,  5 ounces of protein, 3 cups of dairy and 5 teaspoons of oil for the average 18 year old female. The first phase of the Atkins Diet consists of only 20 grams of carbohydrates per day, which is equivalent to about 0.7 ounces. Also, Protein and fat is consumed through meats and vegetable oil. No dairy, legumes, nuts, caffeine, or alcohol is allowed.

  1. I believe that this diet would be filling throughout the day. The diet allows one to eat meat, vegetables and fruit. One can prepare the food any way they like, making the diet easier for picky eaters.

  1. The diet lasts for an average of 3-4 weeks. The diet is broken up into phases. Phase One ends when you are within 15 pounds of your goal weight. This could take around two weeks. The second phase, which is reaching the goal weight, can last an additional week or two.

  1. In theory, there are no “special foods” involved. One should be able to stay on the Atkins Diet by simply cutting out gluten and dairy.

  1. This diet promises to help you lose 15 pounds in as little as two weeks. The Atkins Diet is not recommended for long term success because once one starts to eat dairy and gluten again, they will gain the weight back.

  1. The Atkins diet restricts sugar and carbohydrate intake. Also, the diet omits dairy and gluten.

  1. Exercise is not required to lose weight while on the Atkins diet. But, it does offer benefits such as maintaining a lean body mass, supporting weight loss and boosting energy.
